Black Hawk Helicopter Collides with American Airlines Jet Near Reagan National Airport
A recent and significant incident involving a Black Hawk helicopter occurred on January 29, 2025, near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA). An Army Black Hawk helicopter, part of a training mission, collided midair with an American Airlines passenger jet. The jet was a PSA CRJ700 regional flight, operated as American Eagle Flight 5342, carrying 60 passengers and four crew members. The Black Hawk helicopter had three Army soldiers on board.The collision resulted in the Black Hawk helicopter crashing into the Potomac River. Tragically, all three occupants of the helicopter were killed in the crash. The passenger jet managed to land at Reagan National Airport, but the incident led to the immediate closure of the airport until the next morning to handle the emergency and cleanup operations.
