Supreme Court Collegium Recommends Justice Chandran for SC and Transfers Two Chief Justices

The Supreme Court Collegium, led by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna, has recommended the elevation of Justice K Vinod Chandran, the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court, to the Supreme Court. This recommendation was made during a meeting held on January 7, 2025. Justice Chandran, who was initially appointed as a Judge of the High Court of Kerala on November 8, 2011, was elevated to the position of Chief Justice of the High Court of Judicature at Patna on March 29, 2023. He has been serving in this role since then and has over 11 years of experience as a High Court Judge, with significant expertise in various fields of law.In addition to recommending Justice Chandran's elevation, the Collegium also proposed the transfer of two Chief Justices. Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay, the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court, has been recommended for transfer to the Delhi High Court. Similarly, Justice Alok Aradhe, the Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court, has been proposed to be transferred to the Bombay High Court.The appointments and transfers are part of the Collegium's ongoing efforts to manage judicial appointments and ensure a fair representation of judges from different high courts at the Supreme Court level.
