Deputy Resigns After Crashing Patrol Car While Watching Porn on Smartphone

A Lake County, Florida, deputy named Tristan Macomber crashed his patrol car into another vehicle while watching pornography on his personal phone. The incident occurred on November 6, 2024, as Macomber was driving south on County Road 435. His body-worn camera captured the moment the airbag deployed after he rear-ended the other car, which had stopped for a school bus.

Initially, Macomber claimed that his brakes had locked up, but an investigation revealed that he was not truthful about his activities prior to the crash. He initially said he was scrolling through a group chat with other deputies, but it was later determined that he was viewing pornographic material on his phone. The investigation concluded that Macomber had violated three sheriff’s office policies: he lied about his actions, used an electronic device for something prohibited, and likely wasn't wearing a seatbelt.

As a result of the investigation, Macomber resigned from his position.
