DGCA Advises Airlines to Increase Flights to Prayagraj Amid High Demand During Maha Kumbh
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has recently advised airlines to increase the number of flights to Prayagraj to help manage the demand and rationalize airfares. This directive comes in response to the surge in air travel demand due to the ongoing Maha Kumbh event, which started on January 13 and will conclude on February 26, 2025.

The DGCA has approved 81 additional flights for January alone, bringing the total number of flights to Prayagraj to 132 from across India. This increase in connectivity aims to ensure adequate supply, which in turn should help bring down soaring airfares. The high demand for flights to Prayagraj has led to significant price hikes, with airfares reaching nearly Rs 50,000 ahead of the Mauni Amavasya, a key event during the Maha Kumbh.Airlines, including SpiceJet, have been directed to boost their capacity by adding more flights and rationalizing fares. This move is part of the government's broader efforts to manage the influx of pilgrims and tourists during the Maha Kumbh, ensuring that travel remains accessible and affordable for all.
