Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov: Renowned Russian Figure Skaters and Coaches
Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov were renowned Russian figure skaters who made significant contributions to their sport. They were world champions in pairs figure skating, winning the title in 1994. The couple competed in six world championships between 1991 and 1996, earning gold, silver, and bronze medals. They were known for their classical skating style and were born in Saint Petersburg, Russia.After their competitive career, Shishkova and Naumov moved to the United States in 1998 to become coaches. They initially worked in Connecticut and later in Boston starting from 2017. They were married in 1995 and had a son, Maxim Naumov, who also became a prominent figure skater for Team USA.

Tragically, Shishkova and Naumov were among the passengers on an American Airlines jet that crashed into the Potomac River near Washington, D.C., following a mid-air collision with a US Army Black Hawk helicopter. The crash occurred on January 29, 2025, as the plane was approaching Reagan National Airport. The couple was returning from the National Development Camp, which was held in conjunction with the US Figure Skating Championships in Kansas.The skating community and their fans are deeply mourning their loss.
