However, the schools were closed as a precaution while the Harrisonburg Police Department conducted the investigation.

School History and Development

Harrisonburg High School has a rich history, having been founded in 1879. Over the years, it has undergone several relocations and renovations to accommodate the growing student population. The school was originally located on South Main Street, moved to South High Street in 1928, and then to Grace Street in 1967. The current building on Garbers Church Road was opened in 2005.
In response to overcrowding, a second high school, Rocktown High School, was opened for the 2024-25 school year. This development aims to alleviate the strain on Harrisonburg High School and provide additional educational resources for the community.
