A significant rescue operation is underway in Yashio City, Saitama Prefecture, Japan, where a 74-year-old truck driver is trapped in a sinkhole. The sinkhole, which first appeared on Tuesday morning, has since expanded to a width of approximately 20 meters and a depth of about 10 meters. The initial hole was caused by a ruptured underground sewage pipe, leading to soil and sand flowing into the pipe and creating a hollow space beneath the road, which eventually collapsed under the weight of a passing truck.

The rescue efforts have been complicated by the unstable ground, which has made it difficult to access the trapped driver, whose cabin remains buried under soil and debris. Authorities have attempted to lift the truck using cranes but have only managed to recover the loading platform. Attempts to remove sediment and dig out the driver have also been unsuccessful. Drones have been deployed to assess the situation, but no significant progress has been made yet.
