The latest disbursement was approved by the IMF Executive Board on December 20, 2024, marking the sixth review of the extended arrangement under the EFF. This arrangement, initially approved in March 2023, provides Ukraine with access to a total of SDR 11.6 billion (approximately US$15.6 billion) over 48 months. The $1.1 billion tranche is expected to be directed towards critical budget expenditures, helping to stabilize the country's finances and support its economic recovery. This financial support is crucial for Ukraine, as it faces a significant finance gap. For 2023 alone, the IMF estimated that Ukraine would need about $42 billion to cover its financial needs, which includes committed loans and grants from various international donors such as the European Commission and the United States. The recent IMF disbursement is part of ongoing efforts to bridge this gap and ensure the country's economic sustainability. In addition to the IMF funding, Ukraine has also received other forms of international aid. For instance, the G7 countries have agreed on an Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration Loans (ERA) initiative, which is expected to provide additional financial support to Ukraine. This multi-faceted approach underscores the international community's commitment to supporting Ukraine during this challenging period.
