Woman Set on Fire and Killed on Brooklyn Subway Train

A tragic incident occurred on December 22, 2024, where a woman was set on fire and subsequently died on a subway train in Brooklyn, New York. The incident took place at the Stillwell Avenue Subway station in Coney Island. The woman was found fully engulfed in flames inside a stationary F train around 7:30 a.m. Officers on patrol smelled and saw smoke, prompting them to investigate. The suspect then calmly walked away and was later found seated on a bench on the platform just outside the train car. He stayed on the scene and was arrested by police after being recognized by three high school-aged New Yorkers who called 911. The suspect was found with a lighter in his pocket.The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and no charges had been filed at the time of the press conference.
